Any PS3 accessories, including controllers and all PS3 games will work on all PS3’s worldwide. I bought a DualShock 3 from Play-Asia (when the USD was low) and it works perfectly fine on my Australian console.
All you need to do is connect it with the USD cord to activate it, as with any controller.

With the advent of a new generation of high density discs to replace DVDs, it is easy for consumers to be confused concerning the format upgrade. The two competing formats, Blu-Ray and HD DVD both offer a significant upgrade of the video and audio quality, but as standalone players for both formats can retail for several hundred pounds, it is understandable that consumers do not want to end up buying the new Betamax.
In terms of technical performance of these two formats are similar and show little discernible difference to the average consumer. A dual layer Blu-ray Disc offers 50 GB of storage space compared to 30GB on a dual layer HD DVD, but for now, only 40% of releases are Blu-Ray dual-layer, with 60% are single layer discs using 25 GB of storage. Yet, even when compared on a 50 GB Blu-Ray DVD with 30GB HD, the difference to consumers will be minimal. Both formats support MPEG-2, VC-1, and H.264 formats for video compression and Dolby Digital, DTS and PCM for audio compression. Consequently, this format battle will be waged primarily by the titles available and the price and quality players.
Initially, both formats were supported by all major studios, but as different studios have different stakes in both formats, major studios started to drop formats. For example, Sony owns Columbia and TriStar Pictures, is one of the main developers of the Blu-Ray and decided to abandon HD DVD for its releases. So, Spiderman 3 is only available for Blu-Ray, which will not fail IRK Spidey-loving HD DVD adopters. Releases on both formats tend to be priced the same, slightly more than the standard DVD counterparts.
When it comes to players, many things have taken place even in the last year. The first generation of standalone players for both formats, published last year by Toshiba Samsung and Panasonic, have been considered more expensive and aimed at early adopters than the general public, and have already been abandoned.
The latest generation of players were generally considered more in value for money, but money Chip says to look elsewhere for now. Sony decided to include Blu-Ray playing capability for Playstation 3 console, which was undoubtedly a business move wise. That means the 5 million current PS3 owners already have a Blu-Ray and gives those not know which format to go with an incentive to buy a PS3 as a low risk option – even if Blu-Ray goes the way of Betamax, they still have a state-of-the-art gaming console. In a similar tactic, consumers can now buy an HD DVD player for the Xbox 360, which can also connect to a high-end PCs, via a connection USB.
For now, Blu-Ray has the edge in the format war. The figures from Nielsen VideoScan, Gfk and the Nikkei, show that Blu-Ray is outselling HD DVD in one ratio of 2 to 1 in the United States and Europe and a ratio of 9 to 1 in Japan. This does not mean that the battle is over just yet – a lot can still be produce, especially if Nintendo would decide to throw their hat into the ring by announcing an external drive for both formats for the Wii (a drive for regular DVD will be published next year).
Hopefully at the end of the format war, the ultimate benefactor will be customers and not companies, but until alternatives to free agency can provide affordable enjoy the best quality video and audio available for viewing at home.
