How can I restore the volume gizmo next to the time at the right time near the bottom of the screen?
I uninstalled some old trash ISP taking space on my computer, shut it off, cut it again and my desktop theme and icons seemed about quality graphics PS2 Nintendo! The mouse wouldnt work either, I had the Geek Squad come out and remove them, and let the computer restart automatically find and reinstall those items. Something I saw him do and wishes he had had a friend tell me what 7 or 8 keystrokes to use because I saw what he did and now I know how to do what I paid $ 150.00. Yes, I have to go to school for this and become a scam artist too! Sorry, had to vent, but said that I have the computer connected to a USB port and one must obtain a free Ethernet cable from Comcast and the team of his, good tip after the scam, but I think I probably did something with the modem and now controls volume, even used to come to my screen, the speakers of my work, but I have no sound. I have Windows ME
Just to answer the question of primary and the assumption that you have XP, go to "Control Panel" and click "Sounds and Audio Devices'. On the first tab," Volume ", which should come first, there is a check box "Place volume icon in the taskbar. It is likely that the box unchecked. Time and click 'Apply'. That should do it.

My Compaq Presario XP has recently been infected by a particularly malicious virus. This is the second time that this PC has been infected. The first time I used the system restore disks and completely restored the PC to its original configuration a day. What a pain that was.
When I restored the computer connected to the Internet, it seemed to take the best part of the week Download and configuration updates. After the second infection have been unable to find the system restore discs that was almost a relief. I disconnected the computer and was even considering throwing away.
I had heard of the operating system open source Free Linux: Ubuntu, and using another computer if I Googled Ubuntu and went to his site.
I read the instructions for downloading and installation on the page. It all seemed simple enough and I went ahead and downloaded the latest version: Ubuntu 9.10 and then transfer the downloaded program a CD-R as instructed.
My Compaq Presario infected would start on the desktop but no icons would load. I could not access some programs using control alt delete command, but it has stripped versions of programs with limited functionality.
I put the Ubuntu CD-R into the CD my Compaq Presario infected and started as instructed on the Ubuntu site. The instructions the screen asked if I wanted to have both OSes on my machine or just Ubuntu. I decided to completely erase XP that was naturally infected and replace it with Ubuntu. I clicked 100% Ubuntu. It warmed me last time that Windows XP is completely erased my computer. I click "Ok" and the installation began.
Installation was fairly simple and it took a few minutes before to have a fully functional operating system Ubuntu on my PC and within a very short time, I had my PC running.
Ubuntu is different from Windows, but many of the same features and is fairly intuitive.
Ubuntu comes with a whole package of major programs preinstalled. The Open Office suite that rivals Microsoft Office. A Web browser: Mozilla Firefox, which has most of the same controls as Internet Explorer, but in different places. It has a bunch of games pre-installed with many popular card games: Blackjack, Solitaire etc. Ubuntu has its own Media Player for MP3 files and videos so that works very well.
Ubuntu also has an integrated software link where you can access free at about 2700 Ubuntu programs.
My first impression of Ubuntu is that I love him very much. It seems very stable seems to be very friendly and easy to use.
The installation process software and applications is slightly different from Windows, but not very difficult. I downloaded and installed easily and Skype for Linux has made some international calls. It worked just fine.
Ubuntu has several advantages over Windows. A major advantage of Ubuntu is it is almost immune to the virus. Ubuntu is free. Ubuntu seems to take much less space on the hard drive and because it is almost immune viruses that do not require antivirus Squandering resources. My PC seems now run four times faster with Ubuntu that has Microsoft Windows XP, but it is true when I installed Ubuntu it got rid of a lot of scrap: old unused software, probably some orphan files and thousands of old e-mails.
The most popular Windows program seems to have an Ubuntu / Linux version or counterpart. Windows programs will not work on Ubuntu, unless you install a program called Wine to run them. I did not need to do that yet.
I have another Desktop PC runs Vista. I bought a switch that allows me to use two computers with a single mouse, keyboard and a monitor. This works great for me because now I do not have Ubuntu instead of corn, as well as Microsoft Windows.
If you just go and have an old PC or laptop lying around, I highly recommend before you dispose of your old machine you install Ubuntu and give it a try. I think you'll be very happy and very impressed. I know I was.
